Why Your Website Isn't Showing Up

Part 1

Why Your Website Won't Show Up on Google (and it's not because the internet is rigged)

“You made the website. You hit publish. You waited. And then... nothing.”

Concept image.

You did what everyone told you to do: picked a DIY website builder, got the pages together, hit publish, and waited for the phone to ring. Except a homeowner three towns over types your exact trade — “furnace repair near me” — and your business is nowhere. Not page two. Nowhere.

So what's going on? Is Google rigged? Did you do something wrong?

No. It's simpler than that. Google is not a phone book.

A phone book prints your number just for having a business. Google doesn't work that way. It has to do two separate jobs before anyone ever sees you:

Job #1 — Find your site. Google sends little programs around the internet collecting pages. But it can only collect what it can reach — and the way a lot of DIY pages are packed together makes them hard for Google to read. If Google can't make sense of your site's map, it never even knows you're there.

Job #2 — Decide you're the best answer. Even when Google finds you, it weighs you against every other contractor to answer one question: does this page give the homeowner the clearest, most useful answer to what they typed?

And here's the part that stings for most home-built contractor sites: they lose on Job #1 before Job #2 ever gets a look. The URL works when you type it in. But Google can't parse the foundation, can't file you under the right thing. So you just... never show up.

Visual page builders are great at looking good on the surface. But the structure underneath — the part that actually talks to Google — is invisible, so it gets neglected. You end up with an online brochure with a publish button, not a search asset. Here's what we've learned building sites for tradespeople: nobody fails because their work is bad. They fail because their website was a brochure with a publish button.

That's entirely fixable. Not with digital tricks. With clean architecture.

Wondering if Google can even find your site right now? Tell us what you do and where you work — we'll check for free and give you a straight answer on whether you're invisible because of something we can fix. No pitch, no obligation. Just the data.

Up next — Part 2: what a good page actually looks like. We tear down the traps that keep most contractor pages from ever answering the one question a customer typed.
